We do not recommend the use of over the counter teething gels that contain benzocaine<\/em>, other numbing agents or belladonna, a toxic substance often found in homeopathic remedies. The American Association of Pediatric Dentistry discourages their use due to the potential toxicity in babies and infants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What can you do to soothe your teething baby?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Here are 5 tips you can use to soothe your teething baby:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Place a clean damp wash cloth <\/strong>dipped in water<\/strong> in the freezer- just two simple ingredients! <\/em>Letting your baby chew on the corner will allow the coldness to provide a numbing sensation. Monitor your child\u2019s use of a washcloth. Allow chewing for 5 minutes and remove from your child\u2019s mouth to avoid\u00a0freezing and hurting their mouth. <\/li>
2. Teething rings: This is a tried and true option. There are so many that have ridges and raises used to rub and soothe the gums. Avoid teething toys with beads or small parts that can come off because this can cause choking.
   • *Hack: dip the ring in cold water for added numbing effect*<\/em><\/li><\/ul><\/li>
   • Gum massage: Place a clean wash cloth around your index finger and gingerly massage gums. We all love a good massage. <\/li>
   • OTC Children\u2019s Tylenol or Motrin taken as recommended can help relieve discomfort *talk with your pediatrician before offering your baby OTC*<\/li>
   • White noise music while baby sleeps- this can be distracting and soothing<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
